What a Summer!
During term time we love supporting young people in schools and leading our community youth work sessions…. but there is something special about the activities that we run during summer. Whether that be the large events like Xsport or the smaller opportunities like a film night or sport in the park. Our summer activities are full of fun, laughter, opportunities to try out new things, to go back to basics and enjoy playing games in the park, to be able to enjoy nature, sometimes venturing outside of Bradford, and even Yorkshire! It’s a chance to make new friends and time for us as youth workers to build even better relationships with young people so that they know they can turn to us for support whenever they need it.
This summer we saw young people who showed amazing leadership skills, others who grew in confidence and self-esteem, some who showed gifts and talents that we didn’t even know they had! Many young people stepped out of their comfort zones, some who proved to themselves how capable they were and some who simply thrived, whether that was because they were doing something new, making new friends or simply relaxing and having fun, away from the challenges of life. What a privilege it is for us to work with such inspiring young people!
Over summer we had around 180 young people and young adults attending our activities, including Xsport (our 3 days sports camp, Sanctuary (a residential in the dales), Park Life (fun and games in Bowling Park), forest/woodlands activity day, a residential/adventure on a tall ship and lots of smaller groups trips and activities.
As always, we are grateful to all our supporters and those who give us grants to be able to do the work we do at emerge! Thank you!
