Creative Moments!

We are blessed to have some very creative youth workers at emerge!  Give them a theme and they quickly find an art or craft activity to go with it!  This gives young people the opportunity to develop new skills and discover new talents and has a positive impact on self-esteem and confidence.  We love it when young people go home feeling proud of something they have made!  It can be therapeutic and relaxing, and regularly a way for young people to express themselves without words.  Many young people find it easier to chat about important or personal issues when their attention is on making or creating something – conversation just becomes a little bit easier.  And of course it is lots of fun – who doesn’t like decorating cupcakes!

Last month, we’ve had a guest artist come and teach our young people some clay modelling skills. We may be biased but some of their clay designs were absolutely brilliant!

We also ran a girl’s arts and craft day during the school holidays on the theme of Autumn. Approximately 30 girls came and took part in crafty and creative fun for the afternoon, alongside lots of conversation.

We are looking forward to next year which is ‘Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture’ and being able to celebrate this with even more creative ideas!  Watch this space…
