We are excited to announce the appointment of our first permanent youth work post in Sheffield.
We have successfully recruited Mark Broadhead in Partnership with Meadowhead Christian Fellowship to develop a youth work hub in the challenging communities of Jordanthorpe and Batemoor in South Sheffield. He will be delivering a range of outreach activities. Mark comes with a wealth of experience and there is a strong volunteer base already established. Mark has just started this post but we look forward to sharing more with you as this progresses.
We are also working in two other communities in South Yorkshire. Firstly, in Clifton, Rotherham where we have established a weekly football session and a cookery course for young people. 12 young people at a time will graduate as ‘Communty Chefs’, as well as educating their families on healthy eating they also once a term host a community meal. This part of Rotherham is incredibly deprived and this project is tackling poverty through raising aspirations.
In Firth Park, Sheffield we are delivering a range of activities and one to one coaching in Firth Park Academy. We have partnered with Forge Youth to ensure the wrap around care and activities into the community.
Another exciting development is that our CEO Tim Elgar is working one day a week with the Diocese on their ‘Centenary Project’ helping them develop and implement their strategy for supporting young people in their most deprived communities.
